Punk Rock Flee Market

I know I'm super late, but last week a friend and I attended Philly's annual Punk Rock Flee Market. They held the event in an open garage-like space, with lines of vendors selling items that range from old record players to one-of-a kind pieces of jewelry. The only thing distracting me from purchasing the first thing I saw, was the heat. The crowds of people only made it worse and really hindered my shopping experience. We were literally melting! Over all, I still made out with a cool selection of items. Here are a few of my lucky finds.

These are super comfy

Love this necklace!!!!

And this one too!

Love love love the pattern on this bathing suit!

Found this bendable bracelet that can easily be unraveled and  turned into a necklace.

My amateur photography skills at their best!!!

Memorable Mad Men

There's noway I can have a blog dicussing vintage fashions and fail to mention my absolute favorite show on television rigth now. Not only do the storylines leave you craving a glass of Bourbon, but the wardrobe selection is picturesque to the 1960's. From Betty Draper's form fitting sillohette's to Joan's colorful  palette of secretarial ensembles, the women of Mad Men have re-invented "sexy" in the 60's.

Betty Draper is the most stylish stay-at-home mom I've ever seen

Joan dressed to perfection.

But lest we forget, the sultry swagger of our protagonist, Don Draper or the uber sophistication of Roger Sterling. From head to toe, each suite is tailored to the "T". These men are SHARP!  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

VV Vintage

I  think everyone has heard Ms. VV Brown's song, "Shark in the Water" as Degrassi's new seasons theme song. Well I decided to do a little research and fell in love with her style and the vintage flavor she has. Here are a few pics I absolutely adore. I know I'm a bit late, but oh well. :)

This 24 year old singer, songwriter, AND producer hails from the UK. She recently started her own online vintage boutique!!!! Check it out, vvvintagae.com , she has some great pieces.

And just in case you haven't heard her single, I posted the video below.

Love it!!!

Summer Fun: Retro Hair

So I was reading my favorite natural hair blog bglhonline.com,  (definitly check it out)  and they featured this very stylish very retro, hairstyle. It can be originally found at Essence.com.

So I went to the sight to see if I could find anymore fun styles that would be great for the summer. I only found one other. Not so retro, but still very stylish. Check it out.

If you have any ideas for fun retro hairstyle for the summer, send them to me and I'll post them!

Vintage Video Remix

I cant help but notice the way vintage fashions have crept their way into a few of my favorite videos. Both Beyonce and Alicia Keys threw a vintage twist on their latest videos for "Why Don't You Love Me?" and "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready). I must say both ladies did a stellar job at creating a unique blend of yesterdays fashions with todays trends.

Alicia Keys's "Unthinkable" video takes us spiraling through time,  over a love affair with racial boundaries. Keys sports various looks through out the video. The first, a beehive up- do most commonly found in the 50's era. What I do love, is when her and actor Chad Michael Murray are walking down the bread isle. Alicia keys looks cute as pie in her cardigan, smi-big hair, and print dress.

Michael's slick hair and collard shirt paired with a sweater, matches the 60's era to perfection. Even the rustic cinematography is picturesque of the time period.
Check out the video!

But this is not the first time Keys tooks us back. Mite I remind u of her randition of Spike Lee's School Daze  movie with Teenage Love Affair. (Click the image to see the video)

As for Ms. Knowles-Carter. I absolutley love this Video!!!! She stepped up the 'fab' factor and did a full out naughty 50's housewife, that gives Betty Draper a run for her money ( I'm a fan of Mad Men). From her chic body suits to pastel pumps, every inch of the video was vintage inspired.

Love these sunglasses and the lipstick!!!

She even paid homage to Rosie the Riveter for us strong independant women.

Tis the Season to be 50's....

I know there are a trillion blogs out there that pay homage to the extremely stylish bathing suits of the 50's. What I absolutely love are the flattering bust lines, the arched shorts cuts, and the perfect form fitting silhouettes of the one-pieces suits. And yes ladies, one pieces swimsuits are back in.

Take a look and be inspired!!!

                                                         I absolutely love the fit!!!

What I do love to see is, how the past inspires today's fashions. Check out these 50's inspired bathing suits.

A little lipstick goes a long way....

So I've never been much of a fashionista or even thought of myself as the least bit stylish. I mean I love clothes...what 23 year old girl doesn't. What I do have, is an a appreciation for fashion, especially vintage fashions or vintage inspired fashions. So I decided, why not write about it, share my love with others.

And thus, LYPSTICK VINTAGE was born.

I'm in the process of starting an online vintage store as well, so be on the look out for that!! And, If your wondering where the name LYPSTICK VINTAGE came from, or what inspired it, honestly, I have no clue. I was sitting home trying to think up names for my store and it just came to me. I actually Googled it too, just to see if the name had been taken. Of course with my luck there is a French store ( I think its French, the words were in a different language) named Lipstick Vintage, so my roommate suggested I throw a "Y" in there to make it different.

Moving forward, what I hope to accomplish with this blog is to show how fashion today is inspired by fashion from the past, and I'll show and talk about a lot of other cool stuff along the way.

Thanks for reading!
